Here are the Literature Kits available through the PMSS Library:
Issues 21
Power of the Media
This literature kit examines the influence the media has on our everyday lives. The resources in the kit encourage students to learn responsibility and critical thinking in regards to media consumption. The guide also promotes understanding the power of the media and how that helps us to be more informed about how we use media today.
Suggested Grades: 8-10
Issues 21 provides access to resources via websites (code provided in Teacher’s Guide).
The Teacher’s Guide provides excellent inquiry prompts, guiding questions and activity ideas. This resource is great for cross curricular connections and provides icons in the guide and in the booklet where teachers may connect to other subject areas.

Justice
This literature kit examines the central question of “How fair is our justice system”?
The package examines many current issues in regards to the Canadian justice system including Young Offenders, Rights and Freedoms, Wrongful Convictions and Restorative Justice. A fantastic resource for both Social Studies, Law and English classrooms.

This literature kit examines the central question of “How can we prevent the next pandemic?” The package examines the nature of pandemics and how today’s health care and proper resources can prevent them. The resource examines how pandemics have impacted societies from the Middle Ages to the SARS outbreak in the 2000s.

The package examines digital citizenship and how to be critically aware of what we consume in today’s digital spaces. Issues of proper use of media, cyber safety, and digital footprints are looked at in detail. The positive influence of technology around the world is also stressed in the literature kit.

Future Worlds
This literature kit examines how issues in today’s society are explored through a science fiction lens. The resources and novels examine what problems the world is facing today and how these issues may create or affect worlds of the future. An extensive unit plan and teacher’s guide is included in the kit.
