2015 was BUSY in the library! In addition to all of the great technology that we have acquired, we received all new furniture! We now have all the furniture (save a few pieces still on order) and have all of the areas in the library open for business. The library can seat 90 people in the main area, has a small meeting/lounge room as well as a media room in the back that can seat 30. This back room has a projector and screen, but also a 75inch Smart T.V. that will soon be mounted on the wall. We have a TON of new books to check out and there is always some sort of contest/bookmarks or other interesting thing to participate in for those who choose. As always, if you have suggestions please let Mrs. Brema know either via this website, a note dropped off at the desk or a quick chat. Looking forward to working with you in 2016!

Many of you have recently received emails from "PMSS Library" stating that you have overdue items that need to be returned to the library. This may have seemed abnormal given that the library has been CLOSED and thus impossible to return or renew said items. Those emails are now being scheduled & sent automatically through the circulation system and, as it is a district wide system, are not controlled by individual libraries/librarians.
Thank you to staff and students for being patient with the recent library closure. We had some work done on the bookcases and had to remove ALL books from the shelves. A daunting and TIME CONSUMING job! Thank you to the various students who donated their time and energy to help re-shelve the books and assemble/move furniture.
We are still not completely finished re-shelving the books, but students and staff are welcome to come to the library to work with their classes (teachers please schedule as per normal), on their spares and before/after school. I ask that you refrain from going to the back (east) side of the library as there are still books on the floor in anticipation of being re-shelved. We have technology in the library! I know that we haven't had any computers in the library so far and you have probably forgotten about them, but they have arrived and are awaiting your ideas!
Here is what we have so far:
The Desktops & Laptops The desktop computers, and soon the laptops, will require you to use your students account (see below) to access them. This is good for everyone involved for the following reasons: you don't have to open up a piece of technology and be forced to see something ridiculous that another student has set as the wall-paper; everything will look the same and be easy for you to customize to suit YOUR needs; nobody will be able to delete or tamper with your saved documents; AND you can save documents on your H drive and be able to access it from any school computer. Student Accounts: Username: Your six digit student number. Password: Whatever you have set it to be. If you have not created a student account, please see Mrs. Brema Your password must have the following parameters:
--lower case letter(s) --symbol(s) (eg: @ # $ % & etc.) --number(s) Example password: Pms@sd42 (has upper & lower case letters, a symbol, a number AND is 7 characters) TEMPORARY log-in info for the laptops = pmss_student/Pms@sd42 The iPads Four of them are brand new & none have security settings on them (i.e. you don't have to use a password to get into them). We expect that you do not leave inappropriate material on the iPads as they will be checked on a regular basis and you will lose technology privileges. The Chrome books These are super cool little creatures, but to get the most out of them you will need a google account. Google accounts are useful for many reasons so you likely have one already. If not, super easy to get, just click here to sign up: Hi everybody and welcome to the library website. First of all, I would like to wish our school's librarian, Mr. Midtdal, all the best in his retirement which was announced over the summer. I am sure you all join me in congratulating him with having such a long and illustrious career as English Teacher and Librarian extraordinaire! You will be missed Mr. Midtdal and we hope you stop by for a visit!
If you have visited the library this year you know that it is in a period of transition. The computers have been relocated and re-purposed (don't worry, we WILL have technology back in the library), there are new faces (thank you Mrs. Bird for getting everything up and running) and there has/will be a gradual change in the way the library looks.. Change is difficult for everybody and I encourage you to come speak to me if you have concerns and/or ideas. So, what is NEW in the library? We have 6 brand new desk top computers and 5 iPads for students to sign out while in the library! We have also borrowed the laptops from the Gr. 9 Inquiry classes and they are available for sign out while in the library on a limited basis. We also have new fiction titles for our collection. Some have been put out on the "New For You" rack in the library, but they have been scooped up by students already. Other titles will be available as soon as we can process them and place them on the shelves.. Here is a sneak peak at some of the titles: Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare The Rule of Thoughts by James Dashner More graphic novels from The Walking Dead series More copies of Eleanor & Parks by Rainbow Rowell The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare Dust & Decay by Jonathan Maberry ....and many, many more! Come check it out! *If you have some suggestions for books you would like to see at the PMSS library either drop by and talk to Mrs. Brema or click on the "Suggestion Box" on the Home Page. This site & blog will keep you informed of changes, like new novels purchased, new equipment available, contests, celebrations, video tutorials, resources...you name it! The site is still under construction, but please take some time to see what is available to help you with your classes, projects and reading for pleasure! |
